XMPP connection issues fixed

I'd been having problems with my XMPP server. XMPP is a open chat protocol, that used to be called Jabber. I'm using the ejabberd software and for a long time I've been getting messages in the ejabberd log saying:
=INFO REPORT==== 2013-03-03 10:59:22 ===
I(<0.423.0>:ejabberd_s2s_out:379) : Closing s2s connection: -> (invalid dialback key)

new bike (frame)

My bike broke back in December. It was a break in the frame. Today I picked up the replacement bike. It's a new frame and forks, but my existing wheels, cranks, gears, handlebars, seat etc.kona.JPG

federated VOIP links

I was reading planet debian the other day, and I came across a post by Daniel Pollock who linked to an article about federated real time communications. This site has an article that was a little watershed moment for me. In summary it says that you shouldn't use Asterisk or FreeSwitch as the centre piece for your federated VOIP solution, but rather you should use sip proxy software like repro or Kamailio. This idea made a lot of sense to me. I've never implemented Asterisk myself yet, but I've read about it, and always thought I should do something along these lines, and this article made me realise some of the reasons I hadn't done so. Because I don't really need a PABX at home.

vim re-wrap

Apparently it's really easy to re-wrap text in Vim (a cool text editor). says you just block select the text you want to re-wrap, and hit 'gq'.
